Lacanian analysis on Lynch

An essay I wrote, providing my interpretation of David Lynch's films Blue Velvet and Eraserhead using Lacanian Psychoanalysis.

David Lynch is an interesting filmmaker. The Elephant Man is, as you may know, my favourite film (most might say that it was his least “Lynchian” work but that’s a debate for another day). Today, however, I’m going to share my own take on his other early works, Blue Velvet and Eraserhead. These two works are remarkably strange, ambivalent, and Freudian, so I used Lacanian Psychoanalytical Film Theory to give you my interpretation of what Lynch is showing us.

Retrospectively, I feel that both the films and my analysis were very phallocentric. Beware, I might come across as a bit of a dick (pun intended).

Enjoy!
