(Hesiod’s) Greek God Family Tree

I recently read Hesiod’s Theogony. I thoroughly enjoyed it because I find it really difficult to engage with mythologies, especially the Greek one. They aren’t ever consistent and sources don’t provide paint the entire picture by giving contextual information. The Theogony on the other hand provides a complete outline of all the Greek deities and their genealogies. On top of that, being a personification of the universe, also provides an historic insight into Greek culture at the time. Super Cool!

There was a problem. Being a relatively short poem, I was getting large chunks of information very quickly. Far too much to diagrammatically process in my head. Other family trees online often aren’t complete or are very messy. So I took it upon myself to make a family tree and go through it in a video.

So without further ado, a present to you, my run-through of Hesiod’s account of the Greek God Family tree. I hope you enjoy.

Unfortunately you’re going to have to turn your head 90 degrees if you wish to get a nice view of it. I did my best.

If you’d like to edit it yourself, I’ve also attached an SVG file:
